YES! Friend and I were in the St. Joseph area and needed a place for brunch and omg this was a good call. The location and interior is really nice. Spacious and hip with a lot of artwork. I told my friend that if we didn't drink out of mason jars I would be very disappointed. And I was not disappointed. I ordered the spicy egg sandwich and it was divine. Guacamole, spicy aioli, and egg combined so wonderfully. I wished I lived in the area because I honestly dream about this thing. Definitely a place you need to check out if you're in the area. It closes at 3 so give yourself enough time to enjoy!!

Every time I come here, the star goes down . The food is so good but the little things are always messed up. There is never silverware on the table. Every time I'm forced to watch my hot food cool down while someone chases down silverware and straws. Every time. And the dog policy has to be addressed. I have a terrible soft spot for dogs, especially big ones. I have a big dog that I love to pieces but I don't love him at the dinner table. I certainly don't love others' dogs at the table. Leave your dog outside the patio (or perhaps at home).

Okay, I had several of my friends recommend this place having vegan options so I had to try it out. I ordered the vegan style Huevos Rancheros while my wife ordered another entree vegan style. I say it was okay, but the portions were rather small and each dish was rather pricey. After that meal my wife were unsatisfied and still hungry. We felt that we could make the same entrees at home with larger portions and less price. It wasn't awful, but at the same time, it wasn't WOW. Limited options for vegans.

Great find in Benton Harbor!! Unique restaurant that doubles as a studio for various artists. The old building has been restructured into a modern building with very artistic surroundings. You can look at art and books as you wait for your table. There is even an area of building blocks and toys for kids to play with. The menu has quite a few unusual breakfast offerings as well as some of the usual. The food was delivered fast by our attentive waitress. The food was great with excellent coffee. You must try the outstanding duck bacon!!

During a weekend getaway to Michigan, this was the one restaurant I felt sad about leaving. I actually ate brunch at The Mason Jar Cafe twice instead of venturing out because I knew it wouldn't disappoint. Just thinking about their Spicy Egg Sandwich (one organic egg over easy with chipotle aioli, avocado, bacon, and amish cheddar cheese on a fresh bagel served with breakfast potatoes) makes me salivate. They also had delicious freshly squeezed orange juice (I watched they went through tons of oranges in a matter of minutes) in cute mason jars (trust me and get the large!) I also had the best Corned Beef Hash I have ever tasted. If you are a dessert fan get a cup of their Abuelita Hazelnut Mocha. It's like liquid dessert (very rich and satisfying).

I rarely give 5 stars but this place was very deserving The ambiance the service and the food all spot on. We sat inside but they also have an outside patio which looked nice . Jim had coffee and I The passion iced tea both the coffee and the Tea were excellent . For breakfast Jim had the mason jar which was eggs toast home fried potatoes and bacon I had the short stack buttermilk pancakes that had some depth they weren't flimsy cakes had great texture and served with local Flagel's syrup delish!! I also highly recommend the little town jalapeño jerky sausage which had a nice smokey flavor with a little heat. A great side with the cakes also the breakfast potatoes with sea salt and Rosemary were excellent. They also carry Local Folks Foods Ketchup and Hot sauce both really really good And I will be ordering them online for home that's how good it was . Our server Lisa was spot on with refills and such and the host/ manager was talking to most guests making sure that there meals were great . I can definitely say this place deserves 5 stars!

We found this GEM by accident and what a find it is. It's in downtown Benton Harbor. Artsy and adorable. While waiting we browsed through used books for sale, looked at artwork for sale, jewelry... such a neat little place. AND... the food is wonderful! I had the breakfast Sammy with spicy jalapeno sausage.. WOW! My fiancé had the corned beef hash which he raved about... He said it was the best he ever had. It was hard to decide what to get because everything looked so yummy. I highly recommend this spot!Your review helps others learn about great local businesses.

Life changing!! I'm not even kidding! This is hands down the best breakfast I have had in my entire life! We drove a little out of the way for this place but it was so worth it! If you aren't from the area be aware that it looked (to me) like it was in the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure if that's accurate. I'm not familiar with the neighborhood. We shared the stuffed French toast, pancakes, breakfast potatoes and bacon. I can't even put this food into words. The quality is something I have never experienced. I ate until I felt sick. I couldn't stop myself. The coffee and oj were good too. The service was friendly and the wait went by pretty quick. There is some kind of an art gallery in the attached space. We enjoyed walking through that while we waited for the table. We live at least 2 hours away with a 1 hour time difference and we have already planned to head here to eat again on a regular basis. It's that good!

The Mason Jar is quaint, nestled in the Art District of Benton Harbor. The ingredients are fresh and from local farms, and the Cafe offers vegetarian and gluten free options. I have been here many times and have never been disappointed. The wait is long, as can be expected of a brunch spot, but there is a small art gallery and book store to peruse while waiting. I only wish there was an online reservation system. While the breakfast and lunch menu is small, most dishes are delicious, and well prepared. As the name suggests, cold drinks are served in a mason jar. The Huevos Rancheros and the Mason Jar Breakfast are my least favorite items. Both err on the side of bland. However, the Goat Cheese and Gritcakes, Zucchini Bread Waffle, and the Stuffed French Toast are delicious. One of the chefs prepares my eggs to perfection; a sunny side up is cooked just right and deserve compliments! The Zucchini Waffle is delectable, and the thin zucchini slices is a surprising and delicious combination for a waffle. The French Toast is dulcet and divine, served with seasonal fruit

In preparation for Ironman 70.3 Steelhead located in Benton Harbor, I had the privilege to eat here over half a dozen times in the past few months. Every time, I ordered something different. And every time, it came out literally perfect. Fresh, local, homemade everything. I wish there were more restaurants like this, but I guess that's why this one is such a gem. The breakfast menu is extremely diverse and will likely be one of the hardest decisions of your life, so plan on going with someone else and spending a few things. Even the lemonade (for Arnold Palmers) and orange juice is the best I've had. Service doesn't rush you either, even when on a wait. Hands-down, 5-Stars.

Farm to table breakfast delivers! Don't miss the duck bacon. We were hopeful based on the reviews. Anytime something new opens in Benton Harbor area we are excited to try it. Well, this place did not disappoint. The food, and I mean everything, was fantastic. The service was friendly. We will return. It is a gem.

Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes. Place has the vibe of a Logan Park (Chgo) restaurant. Huevos rancheros was a winner. Eggs were perfectly cooked, sauce had a bit of a kick, beans were perfect, gauc worked when mixed with other components, but wasn't a stand out on its own. Marscapone & berry stuffed French toast was sweet without being sickening sweet. No need to add syrup. Homemade lemonade is a bit tart, I added raw sugar to add some sweetness. OJ is freshly squeezed. You'll think you're in FL. Ask for a cup on ice for the room temp oj. Lots of options for vegetarians, pescetarians & those who are gluten free. Shares space with little art studios which may or may not be open. Prices are reasonable and staff is friendly. Outdoor eating area too. Will be back.

Long wait on a Saturday morning, but very tasty food. We tried a crust less quiche and the GF oat banana pancakes are to DIE FOR!! I am not kidding, you are crazy to skip this pancake. I asked the waitress for the recipe (half kidding) and she told me the main ingredients that she knew. I immediately found a recipe on the web & will be trying it very soon. Staff is very friendly and the ambiance is awesome. I really enjoyed the experience and would visit again in a heartbeat!

A perfect Father's Day breakfast! I didn't want the standard greasy spoon we come to rely on while at the lake house. Found this gem and we will be making it a weekly stop. The ambiance was great and the staff was knowledgeable, energetic and engaged. The food and coffee was fantastic. My wife and I shared the Goat Cheese Grit cakes (my favorite) and the Crabmeat Crustless Quiche. My daughter enjoyed her Canadian bacon and eggs. We will be back!

The food was truly excellent, the ambience fun, and the patio perfect for August in Michigan. I went with a collection of sides, and was especially pleased with the chorizo (amazing!) and toast (really great bread!). The coffee and service were also very good. I'll be coming back!

AMAZING FOOD!!! We go here all the time when we visit my parents. Their banana pancakes and quiche are to die for! The owners are so sweet! We had our wedding in Benton Harbor and recommend the Mason Jar to everyone.

Came late on a Saturday afternoon. What an adorable place! There's parking and welcoming service from the entrance to the bill! We are brunch snobs / junkies. OMG this place is awesome! Huevo rancheros were delish. Reminds me of my favorite breakfast item I had in Costa Rica. Flavorful & fresh 5/5. The hubs had the jalapeño omelette. It was prepared American style and was "well done". If it didn't have the brown spots on the omelette i'd give this place a 5! I really wanted to! Side order of crab cakes comes with 2 medium sized cakes with an apple and greens salad. Delish. The cakes could be a little crispier on the shell so that's a 4/5. The bacon side came with 3 pcs. Too crunchy for my husbands taste. Cappuccino was good but not illy! Coffee was hot and good flavored. Def one of the best brunch places in the area! Welcome Mason Jar!

Bomb.EDU so dank. Some of the best corned beef hash I've had at a brunch joint. The portions don't appear to be sufficient but after eating everything, my belly was so happy. Everything on the menu looks hella delicious. When I read the description for each menu item, I'm like my body is ready... I just ordered duck bacon and stuffed French toast. I'll keep yall toasted... I mean posted Yelp. Update: Duck bacon had me feeling some type of way. Mmmmmm mm mm. Crispier than a freshly purchased white vee! The stuffed French toast was good too but I prefer savory dishes for brunch so next I'll stick with something else. Get the blueberry jam for your pancakes or stuffed French toast. It's so good.

My first-time visit this afternoon has to have been one of the most satisfying breakfasts I've had in a long time! The Mason Jar Cafe was recommended to me by a good friend of mine and I was not disappointed in the least. If you ever get a chance to visit the art district of Benton Harbor, a visit to this spot is almost mandatory. Seriously, don't leave without trying this place out! This place is NOT hard to find at all. It's bright yellow exterior will catch your eye regardless of if you're trying to find the place or not. Parking is abundant on the street and either side of the building--even then, it was pretty packed at 1 PM. The atmosphere inside is wonderful. Much of the decoration and furniture reflects that of a backyard lunch--lots of woods and or course, mason jars everywhere! It's a pretty hipster place. If I had to complain about anything, it's a little tight spacing inside, but I actually kind of enjoyed it--it made it seem a lot livelier. Also, there's an art gallery and bookstore just adjacent to the restaurant so check that out if you're waiting for a table! I got the Organic Broccoli Omelet. Oh my lord Jesus in heaven, this omelet was like biting into a rich, cheesy (but not too cheesy), stuffed with broccoli and spinach cloud. It's as fluffy as eggs get and it was extremely satisfying. Tabasco, Cholula, and ketchup is all available on the table for you to enjoy as you wish. It comes with breakfast potatoes as well and these are cooked as perfectly as you can imagine. Crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. I was blown away. I also got a side of bacon (three pieces for $3) and one pancake. The bacon was thick, crispy, and just...good bacon haha. The pancake was very fluffy and came with strawberries and a single blueberry haha. Both of these dishes were excellent complements to my omelet. The service was exceptional! We were asked about our experience multiple times (not too often) and everyone was very friendly, helpful, gave suggestions, etc. Everything you'd want in service, especially if it you're first time and you don't really know what to expect. This place is a little pricier that most breakfast/lunch places but I personally believe it's worth it when considering everything is locally sourced and organic (many items even gluten free). Overall, The Mason Jar Cafe has been one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in the Southwest Michigan area. It's the complete package. I would recommend to everyone! Awesome spot for a casual breakfast with a date or with a group of friends. Seriously, just think of any reason to come, it will be a good enough reason to stop by.

There are no possible words to describe how wonderful this restaurant actually is. The servers are wonderful and I absolutely love the organic ketchup. I give this establishment 20 out of 10, this is really an amazing place and I am honored to have ever set foot in there. Consider yourself lucky if you ever get be in the presence of any of the servers. The food is exquisite and pretty satisfying, if you ask me. Even when they forgot my jalapeño sausage literally four people came and apologized for it. They also took it off the bill and continued the apologies, I love this restaurant and will never stop going. I am honestly going to die in the Mason Jar Café.

Newbie but goodie. Mason Jar is easily one of the top recommendations in the area for their high quality food and warm atmosphere. Seating is problematic especially if you come during busy lunch hours. It cultivates the essence of the growing Benton Harbor art culture, which you can sense even before you step inside their doors. If they plan to expand, I hope they would consider having some small tables and wifi to accommodate the working folks.

The Mason Jar Cafe is an absolute gem in the Benton Harbor Arts District. A sunshine-yellow building with a rustic-chic interior, delicious locally-sourced food, and strong coffee (a must for this girl). We went for breakfast, and we must have arrived right at the sweet spot--late enough to miss the morning rush but too early for the lunchtime crowd. My quiche (which was crustless) was the lightest, fluffiest egg experience of my life. The blueberry lavender jam was the other highlight of my meal. It got very busy as we were leaving (around 11), and the parking lot was full. There is plenty of street parking around, if needed. The service was good. The prices are a bit high, but IMO they are fair for organic and local fare. I will be back...not soon enough.

A friend took me here, and honestly I'm not sure how he found out about it because it's a little hipster place and he...is not. But whatever, glad we went, because it was something different, and that's always good! One cool thing is that it's attached to a little gallery (a couple of tables are even annexed into the gallery space), so if you have to wait you can look around. We did have to wait, though not for long. The place closes at 3, and we were there at 2, and it was still hopping! I like that they serve breakfast all day. I cobbled mine together from sides: breakfast potatoes, crabcakes, and bacon. The crabcakes were the standout, with a dollop of not-overly-strident mustard sauce, also attended by a small and colorful fruit salad. The roasted red potatoes with rosemary were also enjoyable. I liked the flavor of the thick-cut bacon, but I had specifically asked for it to be more well-done, and one of the pieces was nearly raw! My companion ordered the corn beef hash and eggs, and accompanied this hearty dish with the improbably airy Nutella hot chocolate. Service was attentive, even as they were wrapping things up for the day at other parts of the room. Overall, definitely a good choice for breakfast or lunch in Benton Harbor!

This is what I love finding in small community cafés; the basics done really well and some fine additions to really being the quality up and ensure amazing taste. The great atmosphere and novel Mason jar theme is fun and the service was friendly, but the food is what really deserves the praise. Our table enjoyed the crab cakes, a burger and one of the quiche-of-the-day options. Sounds pretty standard, right? But the incredibly fresh, good quality ingredients, amazingly-flavoured complimenting sauces, great presentation and fantastic sides made the meals positively delightful. Although we had a half hour wait for a table, the wait was worth it and, being Mother's Day, it was to be expected. What a great little "passing-through" Yelp find for lunch. If we are ever back this way it would definitely be on our return list.

Back Again and it is a 180 degree difference. Service was prompt and the mason jar breakfast with chicken sausage, paesano toast with cran-cherry jelly was excellent. My mom had the broccoli omelet - delish. Still not a fan of the ketchup but that is a minor inconvenience. This experience leaves me to believe that they still have processes to iron out when it comes to dealing with customers during peak times but if they can work that out this could become a true it spot.

We were in the midst of a road trip and wanted a late lunch. Used yelp to search and happened to find this gem! Our waitress was kind and super helpful; service was pretty quick for the made to order food! When my husband, my boys and I were finished with our meals, there was nothing left...it was so good! Corned beef hash was tender, juicy and flavorful. The grit and goat cheese cakes were perfect with poached eggs. Freshly made lemonade hit the spot and the locally made jams were so tasty we bought two jars to go. We will definitely stop here again!

Best breakfast place in Benton Harbor/Saint Joseph. The quality of ingredients is great. Most, if not everything is organic and prepared fresh. 9.9 times of 10 I've had great service. The quiche that they make is seriously dangerous, I highly recommend it. The sauteed potatoes are super tasty as well. You really can't go wrong here (even for lunch). Another side that you should get are the crab cakes...very good.

This is an adorable spot - they have a creative menu and good food and it's located in the arts district of Benton Harbor (a charming and eclectic area of BH that looks like it belongs in another city). Be prepared for long waits on the weekend - we went for breakfast on a Saturday and waited 40 minutes (after they estimated 25-30) but the wait was worth it. We ordered the Mason Jar Breakfast, the Goat Cheese & Grit Cakes (so amazing that the eggs served with it were invisible to me!), the Vegetarian Egg Sandwich and an omelette and they were all delicious. The service was good as well. The crowd at Mason Jar on this Saturday morning was young, artsy, hipster-types in groups of four or more, not the typical retirement-age couples you might normally see at breakfast/lunch restaurants. I loved the building and the florescent green color of the exterior. It gives you a sense of the quirky and artistic vibe inside, especially in the gallery area surrounding the restaurant. Browsing in there is a great way to kill some time while you're waiting for your table. They serve lunch too so we will be back to explore that side of their menu.

Wife and I ate here around 2 pm on Wednesday afternoon in late August, 2015. Our waitress was good as was the food. For being one of the best rated restaurants in Benton Harbor, perhaps I was expecting a little more. I had the Amish chicken sandwich and my wife had the Farmer's Market Salad. The sandwich was very good, but the salad was bland and tasteless. My wife said it needed more dressing. I should also mention they served about the best clam chowder I've ever had. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path and we had to go around the block to find it.

So the food is great I'd give it 5 stars just for food. Seems to be trying to do healthier stuff all around. Wait staff is iffy. I've been here several times now and all of those times the lady serving us was super grumpy and supper slow. I know these hipster places don't care about service typically but when I pay these prices I expect at least be able to pay my bill in less than 10 minutes.

Ambiance: The place is very modern barn chic with lots of bright woods, clean minimalist lines, and plenty of large windows to let in the light. Service was spectacular although you might have a wait if you come here during peak times. Love the hipster servers which their thick glasses, dyed hair, tattoos, etc. Food: The stuffed french toast was probably one of the best i've ever had; Light, fluffy, stuffed with smooth and mild marscapone cheese. They drizzle it in syrup which was not overwhelming at all and serve it with fresh ripe fruit. French toast is usually ends up being a heavy dense breakfast but they made it light and refreshing. The hash was also amazing with great texture and not-too-salty savory flavor that complements virtually everything else on their menu really well. Overall I have no complaints with this place whatsoever which is rare for me :P This place deserves the five star rating and highly recommend the french toast and hash! I'll definitely be stopping by any time I pass through Benton Harbor.

Just tried The Mason Jar Cafe for the first time after waiting a few months for any beginner's kinks to be worked out, and oh boy, was it good. I seriously loved the food. Like a lot. I had "The Mason Jar Salad" which had arugula, oranges, apples, Michigan cherries, and grilled chicken rosemary vinaigrette. I think the table next to me was laughing because I was audibly appreciating the taste. Service was excellent, quick, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere is hipster modern, although if I had any constructive criticism, it would be to paint the exterior a different color other than sharp yellow. The outdoor picnic tables could also use some more sturdy and larger umbrellas to shade the sun. And I think the front door is a tad bit awkward. But honestly, the food and service shines so bright that I have no problem giving this place five stars. Excellent and a must try.

We waited for 50 minutes (after an estimate of 40) and I must say it actually was worth the wait. The restaurant boasts all organic farm fresh etc... blah blah.. bottom line... good food. I did the Huevos Rancheros and how wonderful everything was - had a kick without being too spicy. Other diners had the Spicy Egg Sandwich, 2 Eggs - w/ Bacon and potatoes. The only thing I personally didn't care for was the Potatoes only because they are seasoned with Rosemary, which I really dislike, however, other diners enjoyed them and I picked a dish without them. Service was slow at times. For example - one Orange Juice was done and then the other came out 10 minutes later because another batch had to be made.. Also, problems with the check and their Credit Card machine not working was aggravating. Fortunately, we had cash. Given the great food, I'm making a rare exception to my 5 star rule and even though the service is spotty, still giving this the highest recommendation possible with the hope that they will get the kinks out of the service. .

Hands down the best corned beef hash this cbh expert has ever tasted. A fantastic balance of flavors and textures. The cbh was nicely complimented with a great price of marvel rye and fine coffee. This place is a real gem and a can't miss for any breakfast food lover.

Let this be known, I am a huge breakfast fan. My time at The Mason Jar Cafe solidified that. Their stuffed French toast was extremely rich and perfectly sweetened. There was enough to leave me very full and satisfied. Everything my table ordered looked delicious. The atmosphere was interesting as well. This place is the bom-dot-com. Stopped by for brunch on a road trip through Michigan, and was pleasantly surprised with a fresh, organic, take on various types of lunch and breakfast items. The staff is exceptionally friendly, with a simple but perfectly sized menu. They have everything from burgers to huevos rancheros...which are DELICIOUS. Get the chorizo too, you won't regret it. There various types of juices and coffee won't let you down either (they've got cold brew coffee). It's a gem in an otherwise pretty run down area. Definitely prefer this to any place in St. Joe and the other surrounding areas.

This is an interesting little place, tucked away in Benton Harbor's Arts district. They get really busy, so a bit before or after the noon rush might be the best options for quick seating. They serve breakfast and lunch (breakfast all day), and have some gluten-free and vegan options, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. I've tried the Huevos Rancheros (add the chorizo!) and the Corned Beef Hash. Both were quite good, and I'm told the Stuffed French Toast is excellent as well. Definitely not the run-of-the-mill eatery.

We braved a 45 minute drive from South Bend in 25+ mph blowing snow with limited to zero visibility to check this place out. At one point when we couldn't see a foot in front of us we thought about turning around. But, we stuck to our guns and are so glad we did! This place is very quaint and the breakfast was amazing. We sampled zucchini bread pancakes and the biscuits and gravy. Both were wonderful. Easily the best breakfast place in the Michiana area. Update 7/3/15: We continue to go to Mason Jar as our go to weekend breakfast place (haven't tried lunch yet) and have tried most of the menu and specials. Be sure to get there a bit early (around 8am), as it does have a pretty good wait on the weekend. It is worth it though, and MJ continues to meet our expectations. We only wish it were closer to South Bend!

Super small cafe with limited on-street parking and short hours, but if your stars line up and you get in, the food is good. The eclectic menu offers some unique items with whole-food goodness that makes you think it's probably good for you but doesn't compromise on the flavor. We have been to the new Mason Jar Cafe in the Benton Harbor Arts District several times and have always enjoyed our breakfast/lunch. The tomato-basil soup is extremely good (I'm too old to use "awesome"). But this mid morning I had the Mason Jar Salad, a lunch item. Arugula plus Michigan dried cherries, orange chunks, walnuts, apple slices and a bit of tomato (hope I got that right). Lightly and perfectly dressed!

Best breakfast/brunch in the Saint Joseph/Benton Harbor area by far. I've lived here for 3 years now and I've been waiting a long time for a place like this. There is usually at least a 30 minute wait on Sundays around brunch time. The food is fresh, delicious, and well-priced. I've tried almost everything on the breakfast menu and have had only one complaint: the crab cake portions were very small. Here is my favorite order: stuffed french toast (Cinnamon swirled bread stuffed with mascarpone and fresh berries topped with creme anglaise), side of corned beef hash, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a cappuccino. Eat here. You will not be disappointed. This is one of the few MUST EATS I take friends and family when they visit the area.

My wife and I went to the The Mason Jar last week; loved the food! Wait staff really friendly and funny. Coffee mugs were huge with really good coffee. Great Breakfast/Lunch Place If you're nearby do not miss the chance to have breakfast or lunch here. We were looking for a new place for lunch and found this on Yelp. I had the the stuffed french toast which almost put me into a food coma. The others in our party had the pastrami sandwich with a side order of the soup of the day (clam and corn chowder) and the caprese sandwich with a salad. When we first arrived we were told it would be a 40 minute wait, but we'd driven 25 minutes to get there and so stayed and were glad we did as the wait was only 15 minutes. Save room after lunch to hit Water Street Gelatoworks a half block away.

I went two days in a row. So good! The corned beef hash (with poblano peppers/onion) was some of the best that I've ever had. Bread for the toast comes from Bit of Swiss bakery in Stevensville - some of the best around. Fresh squeezed OJ, excellent Free Trade coffee, free Wi-Fi, many gluten-free options, friendly service... Next time I may go with the grit cakes with goat cheese and eggs or the stuffed French toast or the zucchini batter waffle. You get the idea. Too much good stuff. It's great to see Benton Harbor bounce back with great small businesses like The Mason Jar Cafe. Highly recommended!

Both were excellent, I felt the flavors really stood out, and definitely set this place apart from the competition. This is hands down my favorite place in Benton Harbor/St. Joseph. My husband and I dropped in on a whim and were seated pretty quickly. Our waitress Emmie was so sweet and helpful. We had a hard time deciding between all the fantastic options, and she made great suggestions. Their coffee was next level stuff (we're both die-hard coffee drinkers), and the free refills were a nice bonus. The atmosphere of the cafe was wonderful; the wait staff seemed to really know and connect with their patrons. They had that small town eatery vibe down pat. On our waitress's suggestion, my husband got the corned beef hash, and I got the stuffed French toast with a side of crab cakes. The crab cakes were pretty good but nothing life-changing. But the corned hashed and the French toast were phenomenal. I'm going to have dreams about their cinnamon challah stuffed French toast with mascarpone, berry compote, and creamed maple. The only downer about our experience there was that a couple wasps also noticed how amazing our meal was and came to join us. I had to wrap my plate with my napkin while we were waiting for the check. Conclusion: Don't sit outside, DO get the stuffed French toast! I can't wait until I get to go back and try the rest of their menu.

I went to this place a little while back. I walked in and was told it was about a 15 minute wait which I was fine with. A little over an hour later I walked back in and they told me about 15 more minutes. I don't care how good your food is, that kind of service is not okay. The place itself has a cool artistic feel, the wait staff was friendly, and the owner apologized for the wait. The wait wasn't the problem it was the fact that they completely underestimated the wait time, and I didn't have that kind of time. I would have left and came back another day if they told me it was a 30 minute wait. I hate to give a place like this a bad review as I love places that serve fresh organic food and quality meats, and it's difficult to find a place that my wife can eat at since she's vegan. We both ordered from the lunch menu which I think was a mistake as they're known for their breakfast. I ordered the Amish Chicken Sandwich and thought the chicken was really dry, and my wife ordered a vegetarian sandwich with no cheese which was flavorless since the cheese is what gives it flavor so it's not really a good option for Vegans. I will give this place one more chance and update my review after.

We stopped in here for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. The menu is interesting and diverse, the decor is welcoming and cohesive, and the servers were very friendly. We ordered the goat cheese grit cakes- absolutely excellent and perfectly poached eggs; a side pancake which was delicious and served with local maple syrup; a side of the corned beef hash (which I devoured); and an omelet. Everything was great. There are some service kinks to work out but they are doing a great job. I could eat here daily.

Great place for lunch! Everything on the menu sounded good. I had the salmon and a salad and it was outstanding. My girlfriend had the stuffed French toast. It was like a cinnamon roll laid on top of a mound of marscapone cheese and fruit compote. The jalapeño sausage was lovely. She recommends the fresh squeezed orange juice. We can't wait to return and try more of the menu items.

My wife and I visited the Mason Jar approximately three weeks ago. It was a weekday at approximately 0900. The establishment is cozy, the food is fresh and you are able to see the food being prepared. The service was friendly and quick. My wife had the Zucchini waffle which was gluten free. I was not sure how this would taste, but it was awesome. The flavor was incredible and the mixture of local syrup and whipped butter with the waffle made this a pleasant surprise. I had the quiche of the day. It has jalapeno chicken sausage with artichoke. That was incredibly flavorful as well. Quiche is a simple dish, but I am picky about the texture of quiche. It is easy to get quiche too soggy or overcooked, this was neither. It was piping hot, texture was perfect and taste was marvelous. I would definitely recommend this establishment and I can't wait to try the other items on the menu. Oh! Coffee, served in a hardy mug and tasted hardy and earthy...my favorite combination.

Dined here week ago Sunday. Were. told 40 minutes so we put our name in and decided to go kill some time. When we came back we still had a 20 minute wait. Finally seated indoors which was almost as warm and uncomfortable as sitting outside in the sun. Ordered our meals which arrived in a timely fashion but both were uninspiring and lackadaisical--bagel sandwich was on par with what I might throw together at home and the pancakes were good the highlight being the all real fancy maple syrup which had a nice flavor. Coffee mugs were cute and gave you a nice oversize cup of coffee. Overall this place was acceptable but by no means warrants a five star rating and as mentioned our experience was closer to two stars. I'm told Sophia's pancake house is a better place to go in the area and will try that next time and likely won't be back to the mason jar. Nothing specific against the place just not impressive.

Restaurants like this are why I love Yelp. On vacation and I wanted to find a place that the locals love for breakfast and the online reviews guided me here. My expectations were high and they managed to exceed them. Started off with probably the best Chai tea I've ever had and finished it with an order of banana oat pancakes with sausage. Everything here just seems so freaking fresh. The staff was very friendly and we had multiple people come by to ask how everything was. From what I understand this is a newer restaurant and I know how hard this industry can be. If there is a God this place will succeed. Every town needs a place like this and St. Joe's is lucky to have it.

My husband had the Jalapeno quiche special with a side salad - both wonderful, and I had the curried chicken sandwich which was out of this world. On grilled sour dough bread, which was amazing. Great cup of coffee for my husband and I loved the iced tea. My first time here and we are local so will be back time and time again!

On a busy Monday morning, we had to wait for our table, but the adjacent artist co-op, allowed us to view all different types of work from local artists. Once seated, our table was by the corner window where we could see the latest new neighboring businesses that are cropping up in this gentrifying section of Benton Harbor. Menu is imaginative with many gluten free offerings. Portions were quite large - so much that you can easily share. I had the gluten free banana oat pancakes with chocolate chips on top. Three huge pancakes were tasty and filling. The side order of corned beef hash was quite good - but I had to save it for a snack later. It was big enough for a separate meal. Beverages were served in mason jars, of course. We were served by the proprietor, who demonstrated her classic training by perfectly memorizing our 5 orders. Food was delivered promptly. Servers checked on us frequently.

The wife and I decided to try the Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor Saturday morning for breakfast. We are glad we did. The service, and food was excellent. Jamie and her team have created a gem of a breakfast/lunch restaurant. We were in town visiting the area for the first time from Chicago during the 4th of July. We were heading to The Livery for a beer and happened to walk by this quaint restaurant and meet the owner after she was finishing her day- her kindness was so welcoming, so we stopped by the next morning for breakfast. I was impressed she remembered my name, my fiancé's, and my dog-- which they welcome well behaved dogs on their patio. The food is delicious, coffee is mellow but strong, welcoming staff, and the fact this restaurant supports and features local fresh ingredients is a win-win in my opinion. Loads of Gluten free options, vegetarian choices, and plenty for meat lovers-- The food was so delicious we returned the next morning. I recommend including a side of corn beef hash with your breakfast. Eat here--- you'll want to keep coming back!!
